Hunterstown top Paddy Sheelan Group

Hunterstown Rovers 4-12, St. Josephs 3-14

In a high scoring entertaining game, Hunterstown went through to the Paddy Sheelan Cup quarter final tonight in Darver. Hunterstown came good in the final minutes, scoring 1-1 without reply to win by the narrowest of margins.

Oisin McGuinness opened the scoring for the Joes with a fine point, with Hunterstown crashing a shot off the Joes cross bar a minute later. McGuinness landed a second from a free, the ever dangerous Dean Burns broke through to drive a low shot to the Joes net after 4mins. Cormac Marmion hit two excellent scores, the second a two pointer with Dean Burns pointing for Hunterstown. A superb cross field ball from Michael O’Brien found Jack Mulligan whose shot came back off the post for Craig Doherty to finish to an empty net. The Joes ahead by 1-6 to 1-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Hunterstown added points from Dean Burns and Jamie O’Callaghan before Alan Quigleys dipping shot found the net for the Joes on 22mins. Both sides hit the woodwork before Hunterstown hit two goals in as many minutes, Dean Burns with a carbon copy of his first and Jamie O’Callghan crashing the ball to the Joes net, following a goalmouth scramble to put Hunterstown ahead on 29mins. Oisin McGuinness fisted over to send the sides in level at the break 3-4 to 2-7.

The Joes started the second half strongly, Oisin McGuinness finding Alan Quigley whose powerful shot skimmed the cross bar. McGuinness then responded quickly to drive a 13m free to the bottom left corner of the net. Hunterstown with an excellent two pointer narrowed the gap, the sides trading points, Oisin Reidy on target for the Joes, the Joes ahead by 3-9 to 3-8 at the end of the third quarter.

The sides continued to go score for score, Jack Mulligan and Aaron Gray with points for the Joes. Points from Evan McEnteggart and Oisin Reidy had the Joes lead out to three on 59mins. A high ball into the Joes goalmouth found its way to the Joes net and Hunterstown added the winning point in the final minute to win by 4-12 to 3-14.
